The Saigon Gaels were honoured to be invited to a reception to meet the Irish President, Mr Michael D Higgins during his recent state visit to Vietnam.

Hundreds of young and old expats attended and enjoyed the beautiful food and drinks at the Caravelle Hotel for about an hour before the President arrived. Mr Michael D Higgins gave an inspiring speech and even mentioned the Saigon Gaels! He told our club he was very proud of how the GAA had reached Vietnam on such a large scale and urged us to continue to create such a welcoming team.

Following the President’s speech, all of the Saigon Gaels were invited to take a group photo with him, as well as individual photos that will no doubt hold pride of place on Mammys’ fireplaces throughout Ireland for years to come.

A big thank you to the Irish Embassy for inviting us along to this function!
